DAY 3 MINDS AT WAR ROAD TRIP 23rd DECEMBER
Edinburgh Royal Infirmary then
Chris’s House, Wishaw, Glasgow.
Day 3 saw us driving from Newcastle up to Edinburgh to see how one of
our brothers was doing, a veteran of Falklands and NI who is suffering
PTSD and other physical illnesses including lung disease.
We were
originally supposed to be collecting him and bringing him back to 1968
Foundation house to receive therapy and respite for a week or two but he
fell ill the night before and was taken to Hospital. We decided to go
visit him and discuss how we can help him in other ways, including
cleaning his flat, decorating, and moving furniture aroundfor him. He
was very happy to see us turn up and is looking forward to visiting us
as soon as his illness passes.
CHRIS’S HOUSE – SUICIDE PREVENTION
While we were on the road north one of our friends messaged us about Chris’s House and the inspirational Ann & that runs it with her husband Brian in Wishaw near Glasgow. Named after their son who took his own life, Chris’s House is a haven for peace, tranquility, and therapy also for PTSD, Drugs& Alcohol Addiction and various other mental health issues.
I cannot put into words just what lovely and dedicated people they are and what an impression they left on me.
We headed off back to newcastle determined to bring some veterans there as soon as possible.
